Weston, Massachusetts A project of John Moriarty & Associates of Winchester, MA. From Real Estate Forum : Rather than take space in the area’s main biotech hub of Cambridge, MA, or at Research Triangle Park, NC, where it also had operations, Biogen Idec realized significant cost savings by signing a lease in the Corporate Center at Weston in nearby Weston, MA. Boston Properties is developing a 356,367-sf BTS at the site, which was formerly used as a rock quarry. The 15-year deal, brokered for the tenant by DTZ FHO Partners’ Joe Fallon, Brian Hines and Ted Lyon, was worth $275 million. David Provost spoke for Boston Properties. The facility will accommodate the growth of Biogen’s administrative office space. The firm’s local operations were primarily based in Cambridge for office and laboratory space and in Wellesley, MA for office space for a particular business unit. The new location allows Biogen to retain existing and attract new employees—the demographics of the area were very attractive for the cost of housing, particularly when compared to Cambridge. |
