A project of Goguen Construction Inc. Brookline, NH ![]() Founded in 1858, the Townsend Public Library was established “to promote knowledge, stimulate interest and encourage participation in the functions, services and needs of the library.” The previous library, The Hart Free Public Library, was 4,000 square feet and has now been rebuilt to the new 17,000 square foot building which features a senior center, meeting hall, and a library equipped with wireless internet access and 56 state of the art public access computers. Construction of the facility started in July of 2008 and was completed in October of 2009 on time and with no safety issues. The prime architect was Johnson Roberts Associates Inc. of Boston Massachusetts. Construction was led by Gougen Construction of Brookline, New Hampshire, who has previously worked with Hampshire Fire Protection. A close partnership between the town of Townsend, Sterilite Corporation, the design team, construction manager and subcontractors was key to the evaluation of the design at all stages. The construction of the 17,000 square foot building took all of 15 months to complete, with Hampshire Fire Protection working on the project from February of 2009 to the project completion date in October 2009. Our task was to install a fire sprinkler system in the entire building including the library, senior center, town meeting hall, and the attic space. Our sprinkler fitters demonstrated great skill and craftsmanship in their work. Usually know one really appreciates it, because all people really see are the sprinkler heads or flush cover plates. No one sees the concealed pipe. However, everyone at Hampshire Fire Protection is very proud of the job we did at the Townsend Public Library. This project was a success due to the cooperation, determination, coordination and the strong commitment of everyone involved. We would like to commend John Warren, our job supervisor, Robert Stone, the job estimator, Chuck Sisson, our designer, our job foremen, Carl Demers, Marc Misiak, and Michael Moynagh and their team for their persistence, work ethic, personal pride and for doing an excellent job on this project. |
